How We Approach Counseling
Life Dimensions, Inc. believes that the quality of our relationships determine the quality of our lives. For over 30 years, we have been integrating spirituality, theology and psychotherapy in our clinical practice with individuals, couples, and families.
Pastoral Counseling
This approach integrates spirituality and theology with research-based clinical practices. We offer a holistic approach to health and healing, taking one's spirit into consideration alongside mind and body. People, who want to honor their faith tradition, will incorporate their spiritual practices or work to heal from some hurtful religious-based experiences from this method.
Family Systems
We use the metaphor of a mobile, the kind you put over a baby’s crib, to describe how family systems work. You move one part, and the entire thing is affected. Each individual is influenced by their family, workplace, community, culture, etc. Every person has an influence on the whole (family, work, society, and culture). Life Dimensions helps individuals, couples, and entire families see how their interactions help or hurt one another and, more importantly, what they can do to make their relationships stronger and healthier.
Cognitive-Behavorial
This approach is solution-focused and more short-term with oftentimes measurable results. It is more “here and now.” What do you need to think and do differently to get the results you want? For example, some suffering from depression will have negative thoughts that adversely affect their lives. By helping them rethink some of these thoughts, they will respond more effectively to loved ones, their work situation, their enjoyment of life, etc. To know better (a different way of thinking and feeling) leads to doing better (behaviors).
Developmental
Counseling is effective at any stage in an individual's life, and it is never too early to seek guidance. That can be when they are a certain age, they are changing from one stage of life to another. For instance, in the transition from being single to getting married, a major life change is occurring, as with job loss, retirement, menopause, etc. Each stage holds the capability of crisis and stress, which is experienced as a problem. Life Dimensions helps people overcome and move through these crises, and help them see these major transitions as an opportunity for growth.
Meaning-Centered
Viktor Frankl, a Viennese psychotherapist, wrote a famous book entitled Man's Search for Meaning 303-692-8006. It is his gripping story of surviving in a concentration camp and how he found meaning in suffering resulting in his theory and practice of logotherapy. Logotherapy helps the individual make sense of life in spite of tragedy. Life Dimensions will help integrate this approach incredibly when helping individuals struggling with the question of "Why?"
